Spring is on its way in the Township of Douro-Dummer! With the days getting longer and daylight-saving time taking effect on March 8th, 2020, the Township would like to remind residents and business owners to take precautions regarding spring flooding and changing weather conditions.
Temperature fluctuations and major rain and snow events may create challenging conditions on your property, around your home, business and on our public roads. Surface water may be slow to soak into the earth and the roads where frost is present. In these locations residents may see pooling water or water moving across their property or roadways, saturated surface conditions, and frost heaves. Please use caution and drive according to conditions while the spring thaw takes place and in taking care of your property.
Please ensure sump pumps are in working order and take precautions to protect vulnerable areas of your home or business (such as basements and storage areas), especially if you are going away for an extended period of time.
Public Works staff will be patrolling roads to find frozen culverts that need to be opened, repair roads damaged by the spring thaw and prevent flooding wherever possible.
If you see standing water on a roadway due to a plugged drain or culvert, large washouts or frost heaves, please contact the Douro-Dummer Municipal Office at (705) 652-8392.
For after-hours public works emergencies on Township of Douro-Dummer roads, please call our 24/7 emergency line (705) 926-0214.
For public works emergencies on County roads, callers should direct their calls to the Peterborough County Roads Department at (705) 742-4862 during business hours, and (705) 742-6823 after hours. In the Township of Douro-Dummer, County roads can be identified by their name (for example County Road 6, County Road 38, etc.).
