The Township of Douro-Dummer has been reviewing its Animal Control and Dog Licensing By-laws with its partner agency, Peterborough Humane Society.

A proposed By-law for Animal Control is to be reviewed at a public meeting, as part of the Council meeting being held electronically starting at 5pm on January 5th, 2021.

This By-law is an amalgamation of our existing exotic animal and dog licensing By-laws. This By-law was drafted with cooperation from the Peterborough Humane Society and will focus on clarifying and strengthening enforcement and fostering responsible animal ownership.

There are new requirements for the muzzling of a biting dog, as well as rules regarding the containment of animals within an owner’s property. Following Provincial and Federal standards, the list of exotic animals to be prohibited has also been clarified.

A copy of the Draft By-law can be viewed here.

To participate in this electronic meeting in real time, please contact Temporary CAO/ Deputy Clerk, Martina Chait-Hartwig, via by email no later than 12:00 p.m. on the day prior to the scheduled meeting and you will be provided with an invitation to join the meeting using your computer or telephone. Although it is possible for members of the public to “attend” a meeting electronically, and provide verbal submissions, we strongly encourage you to communicate with staff by forwarding written comments.

If you wish to view the public meeting in real time, but do not wish to speak to the application, the meeting will be hosted on the Township’s YouTube Channel. The meeting will also be recorded and available after the meeting for public viewing on the same platform.
