The grace period for residents and businesses to transition to clear garbage bags in the Township of Douro-Dummer will come to an end on Monday, March 12, 2018. Starting on this date, opaque garbage bags will not be collected at the curb nor will they be accepted at the Hall’s Glen Transfer Station. Curbside waste collectors and Hall’s Glen Transfer Station attendants have been instructed to only accept household waste which conforms to the size and clear bag requirements set forth in 2017-50 – Garbage By-law (pdf – 136KB).
Township staff who have been monitoring curbside waste for clear bag compliance during this transition period have reported that the overwhelming majority of the Township has converted to using clear garbage bags and privacy bags. The Township would like to thank everyone for their support and participation in this program and our mission to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Educational materials, advice and assistance are available from the Township on our website, our Twitter feeds, directly from staff or through the “My Waste” App which is available through the County of Peterborough. Residents and businesses are encouraged to contact the Township of Douro-Dummer with any questions they have about implementing the clear bag program in their home or business.
